Barry Road Preschool & Wrap-around Care

KidsStop Barry Road has a well-structured, commited team of highly qualified members of staff. Making use of these skills we have been able to fine tune the invitations to learning and create continuous provision so enriched that children play, learn and develop without intervention from adults. This practice ensures no delay in development and helps us alongside families create the thinkers and doers of the future.

Play opportunities are created by ‘planning in the moment’, taking the interests of each child in real time and making moments of purposeful learning. This assists us in ensuring that all children meet their full potential and that we help create a solid foundation of development so they can move confidently onto primary school.

Breakfast Sessions
After-school Sessions

Our breakfast sessions run from 8:00 to 9:00 and includes a healthy variety of breakfast foods and juices along with water and a selection of fruit available at all times. Our team aim to provide a welcoming, comforting space for both sleepy heads and live wires. An assortment of activities are available for the children to engage with before their busy school day. Our main aim during the breakfast session is to make sure the children have the best possible start to the day. We like to see them off into their classrooms fed, calm and ready to learn.

As we know, at the end of the school day children are hungry. We provide them with a small tea/large snack based on a large varied menu which is reviewed and changed on a weekly basis. The meals are a variety of hot and cold meals and are tailored to suit the seasons. Water and a selection of fruit are freely accessible for the children to help them selves to. At meal times the children sit together are encouraged to self serve, promoting independence.

We experience a lot of different emotions from the children after they finish school and we aim to meet the needs of the children. This can be simply allowing them to make use of the large open playground, field and play equipment to let off some steam or directing them to a comfy beanbag to chill with a book.

Our dedicated team arrange an array of different activities each session and often carry on an activity from the day before. Our team members will recognise the activities that are really enjoyed and adapt it for the following day incorporating different resources or materials. Planning in the moment is a key quality of our care and we grasp the opportunity to ramp up an activity, engaging the children further and making the activity as fun as possible.

To create continuity and familiarity for the children our resource setup and layout is the same each day. This means that when the children enter our space, they know where to find the home corner or the arts & craft station. With the children knowing where to go for their chosen activity means they avoid adding that anxiety of not knowing where the resources are on top of whatever emotion they have at the end of the day.

Our staff are trained to allow free flow from inside to outside, allowing the children to play sports outside but also allowing them to join in with the inside activities. Without direction and freedom of choice, we often have all age groups playing together inside and out. During all weathers we aim to have time each day outside where the children can get fresh air after being in a classroom all day and release some pent up energy.

Each session finishes at 18:00.

Daily Routine

The daily routine is carefully planned to provide a calm, nurturing, and inspiring environment where children can learn through exploration and discovery.

The day begins with a warm welcome, allowing children to settle in at their own pace before engaging in a variety of invitation-to-play experiences designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

Throughout the day, children have opportunities to explore open-ended resources, participate in child-led activities, adult-led activities and enjoy outdoor learning, and develop independence through everyday tasks.

Mealtimes are relaxed social occasions that encourage conversation and self-help skills.

Storytelling, singing, and reflection are woven naturally into the routine, while practitioners observe and respond to children's interests, ensuring that each child's learning journey is meaningful, engaging, and unique

We do not believe in templated work where all the children colour in the same template to take home. We believe in providing the children with an array of resources and allowing them to create their own masterpieces in their own way in their own time.

Allowing the children to produce their own creations has been proven to spark imagination, ideas, harness a sense of identity and supports their confidence to be self expressive.

Outdoor Learning

Our secure outside space offers a rich opportunities for physical activity.

We have several mud kitchens for making potions and a yummy cup of tea for the practitioners.

We like to enjoy all weathers and understand the importance and benefits of the outside. Activities are enjoyed in all weathers.
